CHALLENGES FOR EVANGELISM

6 Jul

The Summary of Sermon by Ps. Djohan Handojo at Bethany International Sevice on Sunday, 2 July 2017.

CHALLENGES FOR EVANGELISM

Pastor Djohan recently attended a conference at Wittenburg in Germany where the Reformation started by Martin Luther.

The conference discussed how to bring the Gospel for every person and challenges in sharing it. The gospel brings freedom and transforms life.

In sharing the gospel today, we faced several challenges :-

 1. Ideology

People do not believe in God. 40% of the people in the Western world become atheist. They do not find God important in their lives.
2. Secularism

People look into the world and there is less emphasis of God in the society. In South East Asia, many people still have strong faith in God. We still find Christian schools, many Church services in the malls and hotels.

3. Moral

Today sexual disorder is considered normal and acceptable especially in the western world. The government in America and other western countries legalized the same-sex marriage. Even the schools are teaching it and educate the right to develop love and feelings beyond the gender which is gender disorientation.

(
James 1: 2-3) The world is constantly under temptation by the devil. Only the kingdom of God is unshakeable.

We are dealing with self centeredness. People have the tendency to become self centered. Some of us struggle with sin but Jesus is waiting for us to come back when we have gone astray in the world.
(2 Corinthians 5: 17-18) We are the new creation in Christ. It is important for us to walk in Christ every day. God will see us in a different way, God will see Christ who has redeemed us and see us as a new man or new woman in Christ.

When we are still living in the old self, the devil can attack us. When we live as a new man in Christ, the
devil cannot attack us. However, we can live a victorious life because God is in us.

(1 Corinthians 6 : 2 – 3)  For us as believers, one day, we will reign and rule with Jesus. We will judge the world and the fallen angels.

Now, the Holy Spirit is in the world but one day the Holy Spirit will be taken away from the world. The world will turn into chaos.
(John 6:54- 55) Whoever eat of my flesh and drink of my blood remains in me, have the salvation and eternal life.

GOD’S RIGHT HAND

GOD’S RIGHT HAND

TODAY’S INSPIRATION

When going to slip, one little boy shouted to his father, “Daddy help me!” Then immediately his father turned his loving face and hasten gave his hand to save his son. Likewise, God our Father, when we shout and call out his name so He will turn his full of love face to hasten His powerful hands to save us.

Today the word of God in Ezra 8 said about the hand of god. The right hand of God speaks of God’s omnipotence. Notice some references that describe God’s hands God’s omnipotence:

Jesus answered: “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven,” (Matthew 26:64).

“The God’s word says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet,” (Psalm 110:1).

“Now this I know: the Lord gives victory to his anointed and answer him from his heavenly sanctuary with the victories power of his right hand.” (Psalm 20:6).

When we see the face of God, the mighty hand of God is extended to us. For then, we will be used as the right hand of God in this world, as instrument of the God’s glory for doing God’s work that miraculous. But the mighty hand of God that it can do major shocks unimaginable to those who oppose God and worship the other gods.

Fasting and Prayer for Protection

21 Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. 22 For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.” 23 So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer.

TODAY’S VERSE TO REMEMBER:

For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.” (Ezra 8:22)

TODAY’S ACTION:

Always cried to the Lord, His right hand will soon help us.

TODAY’S QUOTE:

God’s hands are full of power and love extended to those who seek God earnestly. However, the wrath of God is for those who forsake the Lord.

THE RIGHT RESPONSE

4 Jul

THE RIGHT RESPONSE

TODAY’S INSPIRATION

Problems can happen to anyone, anywhere and anytime. But the problem is not something that should be avoided but the problem is the trouble to be controlled and overcome.

How to control the problem is by giving a good response to it, because an appropriate response when a problem occurs suddenly will determine the end of the problem as well as an early indication of whether we will win or lose.

Still fresh in our memory about the financial crisis occurred in all countries, resulting in many people who were experiencing the loss of possessions in an instant or short time. A lot of the news we read in the media that strong people who were not expected would not be affected by the crisis, when facing of crisis, chose to response in wrong way, they run away from the problem by looking for shortcuts so that they became the people who lose and the latter.

Job when faced with severe problems (not because he sinned), gave an excellent response to surrender and not curse God and by this good response God found Job who had not sinned, God eventually bless him more in the end of his life, he is more than conquerors.

We can provide the correct response to the problem, if we have the Spirit of God in our lives, because the Spirit of God is greater than all the problems in this world and the Spirit of the Lord brings peace that will give us the strength to look forward with hope to God that never in vain.

TODAY’S WORD: Job 1:1-22, NKJV

Job and His Family in Uz

1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.

4 And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. 5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did regularly.

Satan Attacks Job’s Character

6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, “From where do you come?”

So Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.”

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?”

9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”

12 And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person.”

So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

Job Loses His Property and Children

13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house; 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 15 when the Sabeans raided them and took them away—indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!”

20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said:

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord.”

22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

TODAY’S VERSE TO REMEMBER:

“In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.”  (Job 1:22)

TODAY’S ACTION:

What is your problem today?

Start by trying to give the correct response in the truth so that we become more than conquerors.

SECRETS TO LIVE IN ABUNDANCE

SECRETS TO LIVE IN ABUNDANCE

TODAY’S INSPIRATION

God’s promises that have been sealed by the blood of Jesus Christ must be fulfilled according to His word. Notice the word of God in Isaiah 42:16, there are 3 important things in the Word of God which are:

  1. In God’s promises, there will always be people who receive the promise. It is said that those who receive God’s promises are like the blind. Physically and condition of the blinds is they cannot see, and they will never know its destination. They will never dare to step or if nobody leads them. The blind people are talking about us as believers even though we physically can see. When we start something new, then obviously we never know what will happen and which way we should go. We need God to lead us, because only in God our future and hope can be found.
  2. The new road we have never known. The bible explains that the new road is not an easy road, this road looks narrow and we do not know so it does not appeal to the people who saw it, but it provides salvation and abundance. We need God’s guidance to be able to recognize this road and take steps according to God’s will.
  3. The Bible records that God values obedience and rewards those who are willing to step in God’s guidance in obedient and the God’s promise is God will transform the darkness into the light. All that is made by our hand, blessed by the Lord will succeed.

TODAY’S WORD: Psalm 25:8-10, NKJV

8 Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore, He teaches sinners in the way. 9 The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way. 10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

TODAY’S VERSE TO REMEMBER:

“I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.”  (Isaiah 42:16)

TODAY’S ACTION:

If today you are going to start something new, do not be fooled by the thinking that discourages you to go, ask and involve God, have a sensitive heart to capture God’s signs and when God gives confirmation immediate obey and do it, He will give light to drive out darkness and straighten the road to God’s abundant blessings.

TODAY’S QUOTE:

Obedience will bring you to salvation and abundance.
